New Jersey rules in this game
  • NFHS rules as played by the NJSIAA: 11 a side, four downs, 100-yard field with 10-yard end zones and the goalposts on the end lines.
  • Kickoffs from the 40, free kicks after a safety from the 20, fair catches allowed, and touchbacks come out to the 20.
  • The try is snapped from the 3: kick for one or go for two. The defense cannot score on a try.
  • Pass interference on the defense is 15 yards from the previous spot with no automatic first down.
  • Twelve-minute quarters and three timeouts per half. A 35-point lead in the second half starts a running clock.
  • Overtime is the Kansas plan: each team gets 1st and goal from the 10. From the third overtime, teams must go for two.
  • Nine-game regular season inside five conferences, then NJSIAA playoffs: eight-team sectional brackets for Groups 1–5 in North 1, North 2, Central and South, regional finals, and state finals at MetLife Stadium, plus Non-Public A and B brackets.
  • NJ legends: real New Jersey greats join random schools over the years, four years each (grades 9–12), never repeated. Their ratings carry a gold box.
  • Game simplifications: groups, sections and conference divisions are approximate, ratings are invented, and transfers without a change of address sit out the first 3 games.
